Prepare your manuscript for JOSSDA

Scope

JOSSDA welcomes original research, review articles, and short communications in applied statistics, biostatistics, data analytics, machine learning, probability theory, and survey methodology.

Manuscript preparation

• Use the official JOSSDA manuscript template (download link above) for formatting, headings, and reference style.
• Manuscripts must be submitted as a single DOCX file, no larger than 25 MB.
• Include a structured abstract of no more than 300 words and 3-6 keywords.
• Number all pages, equations, tables, and figures consecutively.

Authorship

• List every author with their full name, institutional affiliation, and email address.
• Identify exactly one corresponding author who will receive all editorial correspondence.
• Every author's affiliation must match an institution already approved in the JOSSDA affiliation directory. If your institution is missing, submit an affiliation request before submitting your manuscript.

Peer review process

1. Initial screening — the editorial team checks scope, formatting, and completeness within 5 business days.
2. Peer review — manuscripts that pass screening are sent for review. Decisions (accepted, changes requested, or rejected) are typically communicated within 4-6 weeks.
3. Revision — if changes are requested, authors receive a secure, time-limited revision link to resubmit an updated manuscript.
4. Publication — accepted manuscripts are assigned a JOSSDA reference code and published in the next available issue.

Ethics and originality

Submissions must be original, unpublished work that is not under review elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining any necessary permissions for reused data, figures, or third-party content.
